Rubix's First Week

I'm so glad I waited later in life to begin fostering.  Had I attempted this in my 20s, I don't think I could have handled it.  Though most people will still say that I am not a patient person, I have so much understanding for these little guys.

My little Rubix spent the majority of his short life in a shelter, a month of which was at the vet.  He was receiving the best care, but didn't know much outside of his kennel.  How, under these circumstances, could he know?  Because he is eager to please!  Though filled with tons of energy, he stops and he listens.  He wants to learn, he wants to make you happy.

It's been one week since I brought Rubix home and in that short time he has learned:
    Enjoying a Puppy Treat
  • to sit for treats
  • to sit to put on his leash
  • to sit to go outside
  • to sit for his meals
  •
  • to accept his treats nicely, no bite
  • to sleep up to 7 hours at night

If only I could get him to gain weight and grow hair!  He might have a gained a pound or two since I picked him up, but he's still so skinny.  The hair he has is looking better, but he still has bald spots.  I know it will take time, it has only been a week.  See...the patience thing, I'm stilling working on it.

I would be lying if I said it was easy, but it's worth it - all of it!  There is no doubt in my mind that Rubix knows he was saved by the people of Stray Rescue and I thank them for it!!!
