Meet RUBIX!!!

In a selfish attempt to make the transition to life without Bruiser (formerly Baboon) easier, we decided to foster another puppy.  Bruiser had parvo and although completely healthy now, we can only foster other puppies that have had parvo...that or wait 6 months until we could bring in another non-parvo pup.  So I went down to the Pine Street Shelter today to meet available parvo-puppies that could come into our home.

Please understand that we are willing to help any of the dogs in need of a foster home, but we do have a special place in our hearts for those black dogs.  So today I took a look at the dogs in solitary (kept separate to keep the others healthy) and immediately liked the two black dogs.  One was a sweet, skinny and quiet dog and the other was a cute, little and yappy dog.  You can guess which one I chose.

Meet Rubix...

Rubix is an appreciative pup, he knows who loves him.  He has been my shadow since I brought him home.  He's a 5-6 month old terrier mix and only about 20 pounds - this guy won't get too big, maybe 45-50 pounds?  It seems appropriate for him to be named after a toy, he is a lot fun and full of energy.  Rubix loves to play with Bruiser and is learning how to play with his older foster siblings.

I'm waiting to hear back from the Stray Rescue vet to learn more about Rubix's medical history.  I know he had parvo and it appears he is recovering from a bout with mange.  Both parvo and mange are treatable and he has already completed his rounds of medication.  I look forward to seeing his hair grow back and his body fill out now that he is healthy and in a nurturing environment - not to imply that Stray Rescue didn't nurture him, but living in a home is a lot different than living in a kennel.  I am very grateful for all that Stray Rescue did to give this little guy a chance at a happy life.

We have a full house through this holiday weekend, but I think it will be good for all involved.  Bruiser and Rubix can play, giving Brady and Annie a little break.  Ryan and I can bond with our new foster and better accept Bruiser's adoption.  And I have Thursday through Friday off so I can spend full days caring, training and loving all the dogs.

Thank you Stray Rescue for giving us another opportunity to foster a puppy.   I hope he will enjoy his time with us and that we can find him the perfect forever home too.
